How much does a small app cost on Railway?
Railway bills CPU and memory per second of actual use (vCPU $0.00000772/sec, memory $0.00000386/GB-sec, egress $0.05/GB, per railway.com/pricing checked 2026-10-15). A small always-on web app that averages 0.05 vCPU and 0.25 GB of RAM uses about $3.50 of resources in a 30-day month, which fits inside the Hobby plan's $5 minimum. That example is an estimate, not a measurement; your app's real usage is shown in Railway's usage dashboard.
Is the Railway Hobby plan $5 a month no matter what?
The Hobby plan has a $5 monthly minimum that includes $5 of usage. If your usage stays under $5 you pay $5; usage above that is billed on top. Pro works the same way with a $20 minimum that includes $20 of usage.
What does the calculator leave out?
Volume storage, object storage and any add-on charges are not included, and real CPU and memory use varies minute to minute. Treat the result as a rough estimate and check the usage page in your Railway project after a few days.
