Cursor vs Claude Code: Cursor Premium ($30) or Claude Pro ($20)?
Last updated
Short answer: Claude Code if you want Claude Opus and Sonnet included in a flat plan (Claude Pro $20/mo, $17 annual) and a terminal-first agent. Cursor if you want an AI editor with Tab, cloud agents and Bugbot; Premium ($30/mo) includes Grok and Composer usage, but Claude inside Cursor bills extra at API list price.
Since The X Subscription launched on Oct 12, 2026, new Cursor customers choose Plus ($8), Premium ($30), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200), and Claude, GPT and Gemini models in Cursor are no longer covered by the included usage. That changes the old Cursor vs Claude Code question: it's now mostly about which models you want included in the price, and whether you want an editor or an agent you run from your own terminal. Every plan and price below was checked on vendor pages on 2026-10-15.

Verdict
Pick Cursor if you want one AI editor with completions, agents, cloud agents and PR review, and Grok 4.7 or Composer 2.5 handle most of your coding. Premium at $30 is the realistic starting tier, and any Claude use on top is billed at API list price. Pick Claude Code if Claude Opus or Sonnet is the model you want all day: Claude Pro at $20 ($17 annual) includes it within a 5-hour and weekly limit, and Max from $100 scales it. Many developers combine them, for example Claude Pro plus Cursor Plus ($28/mo) or Premium ($50/mo). Existing Cursor Pro ($20) subscribers can keep that plan.

FAQ
Is Cursor or Claude Code better?
They do different jobs. Cursor is an AI editor; Claude Code is Anthropic's agent you run from a terminal or IDE. In our preliminary scores Cursor is 87/100 for pro editors and Claude Code 88/100 for terminal agents. Pick by workflow and by which models you want included.
Is Cursor Premium ($30) worth it over Claude Pro ($20)?
Only if you want the editor features (Tab, Cloud Agents, Bugbot) and are happy with Grok and Composer as your included models. If you mainly want Claude, Claude Pro includes it for $10 less; Claude in Cursor costs extra at API list price.
Does Cursor Premium include Claude?
No. Cursor's docs say third-party models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini aren't part of the included pool. On Premium and above they're available at API list price, paid from prepaid credit. Plus can't use them at all.
Can I use Claude Code and Cursor together?
Yes. Claude Code runs from a terminal, so you can run it in any terminal, including Cursor's built-in one, and its usage comes from your Claude plan rather than Cursor's pool. Claude Pro plus Cursor Plus is $28 a month at list prices.
Can new users still get Cursor Pro at $20?
No. Cursor's help docs say legacy Pro, Pro+ and Ultra aren't available to new customers; existing subscribers keep them until they switch or cancel.
Do affiliate links affect this comparison?
No. Neither Cursor nor Claude Code is linked through an affiliate program today, and affiliate status never affects our picks. See the disclosure page.
