How GitHub AI Credits work
Every Copilot plan includes a monthly allowance of GitHub AI Credits, where 1 credit = $0.01. Chat, agent mode, code review, the Copilot cloud agent, Copilot CLI and Copilot Apps draw credits at a rate that depends on the model and task; code completions and next edit suggestions don't use credits and stay unlimited on paid plans. Per GitHub's plans page (checked Oct 15, 2026), Pro includes $15 of credits a month ($10 base plus a $5 flex allotment), Pro+ $70 ($39 base plus $31 flex) and Max $200 ($100 base). Flex allotments "may change over time". When credits run out you can wait for the monthly reset, set a dollar budget for paid usage, or switch to a cheaper model.
Gemini 4 Argon in Copilot (Oct 13, 2026)
GitHub made Google's Gemini 4 Argon generally available in Copilot on Oct 13, 2026 for Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users (not Pro), billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing. It shows in the model picker in VS Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the coding agent, the Copilot app, JetBrains, Xcode and Eclipse, with a gradual rollout. Business and Enterprise admins control it through the model policy; new models are enabled by default unless an admin turned that off.
HydraFusion and HydraFusion Max (Oct 14, 2026)
HydraFusion, Copilot's research-preview mode that orchestrates several models for one response, got an updated model pool on Oct 14, 2026 (Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna) and a new HydraFusion Max option tuned for harder tasks. Both are in VS Code, the Copilot app and Copilot CLI, on Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise with preview features enabled.
Business and Enterprise: seats billed upfront since Oct 1, 2026
For Copilot Business ($19/user/mo) and Enterprise ($39/user/mo) customers paying by credit card or PayPal, new seat assignments must be paid before the user gets access, and all assigned seats are charged upfront at the start of each billing cycle, for existing customers too from Oct 1, 2026. GitHub says plan prices did not change; seats added mid-cycle are still prorated, and revoking a seat does not give a prorated refund. Usage beyond the pooled credits is billed at $0.01 per credit.
