X Super vs Claude Max for coding: should you switch from Claude Code?
Last updated
Short answer: It depends on which models you code with. Both cost $100 a month. X Super includes Cursor with a weekly pool of 15x Plus usage for Cursor's own models (Grok 4.7, 4.6, 4.5 and Composer 2.5), shared with Grok. Claude, GPT and Gemini are not in that pool: in Cursor they bill at API list price from prepaid credit. Claude Max (from $100/mo, 5x or 20x Pro usage) includes Claude Code with Claude models inside the subscription. If you mostly want Claude Opus or Sonnet, Max is the more predictable way to pay for them; if Grok and Composer cover your work, X Super bundles the editor, cloud agents, code review and X perks for the same price.
What $100 a month gets you on X Super
Super is one subscription for Grok, Cursor and X. Per Cursor's pricing page and docs (checked Oct 15, 2026): Cursor Agent, CLI, Cloud Agents and Automations, code review with Bugbot, code hosting on Origin, Grok Bot, Grok Chat, Imagine and video, priority model access at peak times, and X perks such as the checkmark and ad-free scrolling on most surfaces. Usage is one pool for Cursor's own models, 15x the Plus plan, shared across Cursor and the Grok apps and refreshed weekly. Annual billing is $1,000 a year.
What $100 a month gets you on Claude Max
Max 5x starts at $100 a month (Max 20x costs more) and includes everything in Claude Pro: Claude Code in the terminal, IDEs, desktop and web, plus Claude chat, all drawing from one usage limit. Max gives 5x or 20x Pro usage per 5-hour session, with weekly limits on top, priority access at high traffic times, and $100 to $200 a month in API credits to build on the Claude Platform (per claude.com/pricing, checked Oct 15, 2026). Max is billed monthly only.
The catch for Claude Code switchers
Third-party models are not part of any X Subscription usage pool. On Premium, Super and Ultra you can pick Claude in Cursor, but every Claude request is paid from prepaid credit at the model's API list price, from the first request. Cursor's docs list Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 and $10. So a heavy Claude user who switches pays $100 plus token costs. Plus ($8) can't use third-party models at all. Set a monthly additional-usage limit in your Grok dashboard billing settings if you try it.
Who each one fits
X Super fits you if Grok 4.7 or Composer 2.5 handle your daily coding, you want an AI editor with cloud agents and PR review included, and you'd pay for an X subscription anyway. Claude Max fits you if you want Claude Opus or Sonnet all day in Claude Code at a flat price. To test cheaply first: the X Subscription's Premium plan is $30 a month (4x Plus usage, adds third-party models at API price) and Claude Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed annually) and includes Claude Code. Neither option is scored head to head here; see the Cursor vs Claude Code page for our preliminary category scores.

FAQ
Is Claude included in X Super?
No. Cursor's docs say third-party models like Claude, GPT and Gemini aren't part of the included pool. On Premium and above they're available in Cursor at API list price, paid from prepaid credit.
Is X Super $50 a month?
Not on the vendor page. Cursor's pricing page lists Super at $100 a month ($1,000 a year billed annually) and Premium at $30, checked Oct 15, 2026. If you see a lower price, check cursor.com/pricing for the current offer before you buy.
Does X Super include Claude Code?
No. Claude Code is Anthropic's tool and comes with Claude's paid plans (Pro and Max) or API credits. In Cursor you can choose Claude models, billed separately at API list price.
How do the usage limits reset?
The X Subscription pool refreshes weekly. Claude's limits reset on a rolling 5-hour session window, with weekly limits on paid plans.
Is it cheaper to keep Claude Pro and add the $30 Premium plan?
It can be, if you split work: Claude Pro ($20/mo) for Claude Code plus the X Subscription's Premium plan ($30/mo) for Cursor with Grok models comes to $50 a month at list prices. Your real cost depends on how much you use and whether you pick Claude inside Cursor, which bills extra.
